Software Man is one of the best projects of Dr.Mathias, built by an old UNIX unit and then invulnerable to every kind of malware, he started as an antivirus researcher, but hence he was reprogrammed to hack into every software by a system of extendable wires and to compensate his low mobility, due to the short legs, and his fragile structure, Mathias installed him as weapon the Disc Firewall, a powerful shield that prevents every damage.

SM is very clever and intelligent, but he trends to become rather arrogant, but not so to be annoying. He and Crane Man are best friends because they complete each other, and also together with Web Man he constitues the "Intelligence" of all Mathias's Robot Masters' missions. His weakness, the Thunder Wave, temporarily puts in short circuit and impossibilitate him to use the Disc Firewall, making him vulnerable.
